About Us

The Gellideg Foundation Group (GFG) is a community organisation based on a social housing estate in Merthyr Tydfil, deeply rooted in the community and responsive to local need.

We support people from across the borough with a focus on engaging people who are on very low incomes, who are in poor health, and people who are older or younger. 

Improving wellbeing as a means of tackling ill health and deprivation 

Our aim is to empower residents living on the estate and across Merthyr Tydfil to be able to achieve their potential. Our ambition is to make a lasting change to local people’s lives and break the cycle of intergenerational ill health and poor wellbeing.

Our role is to provide opportunities and services that help people achieve wellbeing and we do this by connecting people together, helping them to be active, to learn, be creative, to be mindful and to give through  volunteering. We also deliver direct anti-poverty services and support to help people navigate a crisis. 

We work in partnership with agencies across all sectors and are very grateful to our wonderful volunteers who support us every day. 

The Gellideg Foundation Group was formed in February 1998 when mothers at a parenting class wanted more for their children than was on offer on the estate. Since then the founding members have developed the group into an established anti-poverty and wellbeing charity in Merthyr Tydfil, supporting generations of families and thousands of people across the decades.
