Gellideg 2008 Fun Day a Big Success

After weeks of rain and miserable weather the sun made a scorching appearance on August 2nd 2008! The Gellideg Foundation Group celebrated their 10th Anniversary by laying on a Fun Day for the community. The day was completely FREE of charge for all and it turned out to be a huge success. Inflatable Fun, Giant Operation, Giant Scalextric, BUZZ, Gladiator Podium and tasty BBQ were a few of many activities on offer. The highlight of the day was definitely the ‘Gellideg’s Got Talent’ competition. We had some fantastic entries but the star of the show has to be Derryn Allen for her fabulous performance of Twinkle Twinkle Little Star.

Hundreds of people turned up to show their support to the Gellideg Foundation Group and the work they do in the community.

Twyncarmel 2008 Fete

Great Success despite the Weather. The Rain did not stop play at the Twyncarmel fete. We just moved indoors to the FACT Shop, the community resource building and had our bar-b-que out in the Back yard.

It was a very enjoyable day for all members of the family, helped by Mr T.Ricks the Clown and Face painter, Nail Artist, Tuck shop and Raffle. The fete was a joint funded event by Wales & West Housing association and Communities First working in Partnership with the community members of Twyncarmel. The local Team of volunteers Linda, Janice, Suzanne, Wendy, Paige and many others worked hard throughout the day and £300 was raised for the Joshua Foundation to enable helpers to escort terminally ill children on a holiday of a lifetime. Well done and a big ‘Thank You’ to all who supported the event!

An evening with Dowlais Male Voice Choir in September was a huge hit and was well attended by the community.

Another successful event in the community. Ynysfach Engine House held an Open Day on 21st July 2008. It was a great day which included performances from Ynysowen Choir and Mr. T.Ricks. The many stalls and homemade cakes and refreshments went down well with the visitors.

With interactive exhibitions on the process of iron making, and exhibitions from local Primary Schools, Heolgerrig and Coed-y-Dderwen. A big thank you to Ann Owen and the volunteers on the day and to all who helped make the day possible.
