After School Club

After School is to help support working parents who have difficulties with childcare after school hours. The facility is primarily for parents living on the estate or parents whose children are attending Coed-Y-Dderwen School.

Our After School Club is based at Coed Y Dderwen Community School and has been running for almost 7 years. The club was set up to provide a safe environment where children are cared for after school until you are able to collect them.

The club adheres to all child care standards and runs in compliance with the stringent requirements that are currently in place to provide childcare facilities of the highest quality.

Activities Include:

  • Indoor/outdoor sports
  • Art 'n' crafts
  • Play station and Nintendo Wii
  • Indoor pool table
  • Giant connect four
  • Outdoor climbing centre
  • A home corner with dress up clothes
  • Cooking sessions
  • The list is endless

We have full access to the school grounds which is safe and secure and is checked daily by the caretaker as well as the after school club staff. Children who have homework to complete can do so under the supervision of our qualified staff.

Our aims

We aim to provide:

  • Provide affordable childcare for children and parents living in the Gellideg area or who attend Coed-Y-Dderwen School
  • Equal opportunity for all children regardless of their age, cultural background, race, or other identified needs, by ensuring that we select and train staff to provide a varied programme of activities
  • A safe, enjoyable and child centred childcare service
  • Childcare that is accessible to parents accessing employment, training or volunteering opportunities
  • A fun and entertaining environment through which children’s social, physical, emotional, creative, intellectual and practical skills can be allowed to develop freely
  • A wide range of activities using equipment that is safe and age appropriate
  • *******************************************

All staff have undergone relevant training and have been cleared by the Criminal Records Bureau to ensure that they have no convictions that should preclude them from working with children.

Registration
All children must be pre-booked into our After School Club and parents/guardians must complete a registration form which provides the club with basic information such as children's allergies/medical conditions that we need to be aware of, emergency contact numbers and overall parental consent.

Snacks
Children are supplied with a small healthy snack each day including toast, biscuits, fruit, yoghurt and sugar free juice.
